American Woodcock (Scolopax minor)
Bryant Park is an unexpected spring migration hotspot for these fascinating birds. Woodcocks are well-known for their spectacular courtship flight, but they need just the right habitat for it; they are not known to display as they stop by the city. This piece is a magical-realist tone poem imagining Bryant Park’s woodcocks launching into their sky dance above midtown Manhattan. The “peent” call of the woodcock appears in the bass during the alto solo.

Lehman's most emotional and most beautiful album to date. This album manages to be complex and extremely interesting to listen to while also feeling like a strong expression of emotion. Lehman's trio is incredible as usual, and they synergize perfectly with Craig Taborn. rat

I'd received a sample cd from Whirlwind with an Arthur Hnatek album. This album is the first I fell in love with on their site. Rudyy Royston ALWAYS pulls me in! Jonathan Pryor

This music has everything I need: acoustic instruments, a slow build, layers of atypical harmonies and rhythms being added each pass through, subtle melodies and combinations. Excellent work! Little James
